As you know if you have read my recent blog posts, being an alumnus, I had a phone interview for this year’s program. But, with one day of face-to-face interviews taking place in Quebec, where I live, I had no choice, but to go and support the future new participants.
The face-to-face interviews were yesterday. The presentation was from 9:30 to 10:30 AM and at 10:30 the interviews started. I was working from 8 to 10 so I arrived at 11, just in time to see most people before their interviews. Laurie was already there, while Roxanne arrived with me, and Florence, a little later. It was great to meet everyone and answer the questions that they had and also to see Laurie, Florence and Roxanne who I hadn’t seen in so long. We could see that everyone was nervous and kind of shy, but I get it. Your first Disney interview is a lot of confliction emotions at the same time. It is so exciting, but also nerve-wracking and surprising for most people because you never think you would be good enough for Disney! I hope we could help some of them overcome the stress and I wish them all the best! I can’t wait to get to know all of them and also get our answers from Disney! All alumni have been waiting for 3 weeks now, but we could hear back as early as next week. Fingers crossed!

It has now been a week since my interview. Even though they told us we wouldn’t have an answer until mid/end of February, I was kind of hoping we would get answers this week. With the face-to-face interviews, we always had an answer the week after. It has been easier than I thought to wait for an email though. I am busy with school and work and I am trying to get as much homework done as I can while I don’t have to study for exams so I don’t have much time to think about Disney at the moment. Next week, the face-to-face interviews start in Toronto and Montreal and we might get some information about which roles they need this year and if some things have changed about the program (hopefully the bus system haha). The face-to-face interviews in Quebec and Vancouver are the week after that, so I will get to meet the new people who come to the interviews in Quebec. And the week after, we might start getting offer or rejection emails. Hopefully an offer :P. So my interview was an hour ago! I was so nervous this morning, I woke up at 6 and couldn't eat because of the knots in my stomach. I was ready by 8:30, with the phone in front of me and a pad and pencil just in case. I even had a glass of water ready! They called at 9:02 and the interview lasted about 20 minutes. The recruter, Caroline, was super nice and it helped to settle my nerves.
My roles checklist wouldn't open so she asked me to rate my interest for each role. And then she asked me what I would like to be different this time around. (Why can't it be exactly like last summer?!) That was a tricky question because after 2 summers at Typhoon, I just want to go back to what I was doing last summer. I told her I would like to have more guest interactions so I would like to be a recreations Cast Member this time around, but please let me be a lifeguard again! I love lifeguarding! I should have just said I wanted nothing to change, but she asked this question twice so I guess it's important... Other than that, she asked me the regular questions: can I work outside or inside, do I have tattoos, can I pass the swim test, can I lift heavy things, etc. She asked me if I had handled money before, if I had worked with boats before and what I would do if a guest wanted to meet Mickey, but the line was closed. So questions about all of my top roles. I have no idea what I will get or even if I will get a role and we won't get news until mid/late February! It's going to be torture waiting for that email!! At least my interview is done and I can concentrate on school until February. And the new people have their interviews at the end of January or beginning of February so it will help me wait to see how their interviews went. I just can't wait to hear back!! So, here I am, sitting on my bed, the night before my third Disney interview (OMG 3rd?! Can you believe it? Where has the time gone!). I don't fully realize that in 11 hours, it will be time. I am nervous, but mostly because it's on the phone and I hate talking on the phone. I am more excited than I am nervous though. Not sure if it's because it will be over or because Disney is always exciting.
Laurie made me practice my answers earlier so I'm ready. Hopefully I can sleep tonight and be well rested for tomorrow! Wish me luck! About half an hour ago I received an email from Disney!!! Instead of an email to put my information on the DOC like all the other years, I got an email for the Roles Checklist. Weird.
I filled it out and then, five minutes later, I got an email to schedule my interview... It's a phone interview. Weird x2. So my phone interview is scheduled for January 12th at 9 AM and I am so nervous. This is so different than the process we had to go through the last two years. Only alumni have received an email so far and only some of them which is SO weird!! I don't understand what is going on at all, but I am just so happy that I have an interview and now I can breath until the beginning of January. I just wonder if this is the only interview we are going to get. Are we doing this one and a face-to-face interview later or is this it? This is all so confusing! To anyone still waiting to hear back, good luck and I hope you all get the chance to participate to this amazing program! UPDATE I got the DOC email 2 seconds ago! About 30 minutes after scheduling my interview! UPDATE 2 The phone interview will be my only interview, but the people who have never done the program will still have to do a face to face interview. As some of you know, I have applied once again for the Cultural Exchange Program! If I am selected, this will be my last Disney program since I will be done with college at the end of the school year and won't be able to apply after that.
This year, the applications opened on August 5, which is very early. They usually don't open until September. And they are still open right now. I applied as soon as I got back from Florida. I am not kidding, literally two days later haha! We are still waiting to hear back form them, but if we look at the last years, we should get an e-mail soon. Maybe this week or next. Fingers crossed! Since this is my last chance, I am terrified that I won't get in and will loose this chance of a last summer of magic before I have to grow up. I'll keep you posted as soon as anyone hears anything. If you have applied too and are from Canada, join us on our Facebook group where you will know as soon as something happens. |
