After Traditions, Marilou, Alexandra and I changed and went straight to Magic Kingdom. Instead of going all the way back to Disney Housing, we took the B bus to the Tickets and Transportation Center to hop on the monorail to Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately, the monorail closes a few hours every week for testing and it wasn’t in operation when we arrived, but the boat was working. As we were walking to the dock, a Cast Member approached us and asked us if she could talk to us for a little bit. Since we had nowhere to be, we agreed. She started explaining how there was a special event going on that night in the Magic Kingdom and they had a couple extra tickets so she was sent by her coordinator to make some Magical Moments. When she had seen us with our Mickey ears she thought we might be interested. All we had to do was go to Guest Relations at about 7 to get special lanyards and we would get to stay at Magic Kingdom until 2 AM and ice cream was included! It was pretty crowded at Magic Kingdom that day, but we still got to see Festival of Fantasy and ride some of the attractions like Haunted Mansion and Philarmagic. Of course we watched Celebrate the Magic and Wishes, but, for us, the real fun started after the park finally closed at midnight. In two hours, we got to ride Big Thunder Mountain three times without even getting out of the train because there was no one in line, Space Mountain twice and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train twice; we got to meet Anna, Elsa, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Mickey and eat a Mickey bar between two rides. Needless to say, we had a blast! For those who were thinking about buying tickets to one of these events, I think it is worth it if money is not an issue for you or if you are from Florida and can’t handle the crowds anymore, but if you are saving money for your first Disney trip, I would wait and get tickets to Mickey’s not-so-scary or the Christmas Party instead. It was great to get the chance to ride the attractions with little to no wait and the free ice cream was amazing, but I don’t thing it is worth the cost. We had Traditions on Thursday, May 12 at 8 AM. We had to wake up at 6 AM to take the bus at 6:45. It was an early start that morning haha!
Traditions is a 4 hour training every Cast Member as to do when they start to work for Disney. It is fun and full of surprises I am not telling you because I don't want to ruin it if you want to do the program later! It is also our first day of work since we get paid for our training. It takes places at Disney University. I wish it was possible to go to school there because it seriously the coolest place ever, after Magic Kingdom of course! I didn't take any pictures, but you can see some from the last two years if you go in earlier posts and it is just beautiful. There are characters hanging from the celling and colourful pictures and drawings in the walls. Our classroom had the entire life of Walt Disney in pictures on the walls. Plus there are TVs and surveys we can answer with little remotes, it is more advanced with the technologies than my university that's for sure! I don't know if you remember, but in my last post I said I was heading to a meeting. Well that meeting was to tell me where I am going to be working all summer. It turns out I will be working at the Grand Floridian and Polynesian resorts! Those are two of the most beautiful Walt Disney World resorts and I am so happy of my location. Even though I wanted to go back to Typhoon Lagoon for my last summer, I am very lucky with the resorts that I got. After the meeting, a bunch of us headed to Disney Springs to hang out and have dinner. We went into a few of the shops and tried on some crazy hats and had dinner at Portobello. It's an Italian restaurant where they have delicious bread that you can butter with garlic and olive oil! It's so good! The meal was good too, but I mean, the bread and garlic!!! We went home pretty early since we had Traditions super early the next morning. Hello y'all! I have been in Florida for 2 days now! The trip went well, we even landed early in Orlando. We had to wait about 30 minutes before check-in, but I didn't get sunburnt so it wasn't so bad. I am at Vista Way in a 3 bedrooms / 6 people apartment with Laurie, Roxanne and Florence. We also have a roommate form Hong Kong. We haven't really talked to her yet since we have all been so busy, but she seems really nice. We are getting a new roommate on Monday. After check-in, we went to Dollar Tree, Walmart and Public to get everything we need to start our program, food, a comforter, a pillow, cleaning supplies... It was passed 9 PM when we got back to the apartment after all that! We then went to the pool to relax before going to bed. The next day, we had the housing meeting at 9 AM. It lasted a little bit more than an hour and would have been kind of interesting if it hadn't been my 3rd time hearing the same rules and safety guidelines. After that I went to Walmart since we didn't have another meeting until 5 PM. I even had time to go to the pool with other people from Quebec. The second meeting wasn't as long as the first, but about as interesting. I don't know if you remember, but a few months ago I made a reservation to have dinner at O'hana so, after the second meeting, Laurie, Florence, Roxanne, Mathieu, Marilou, Catherine, Alexandre and I went to the Polynesian Resort for dinner. It was delicious and all you can eat so we all ate way too much, but it was worth it. We took advantage of the fact that we were already at the Polynesian to watch the fireworks on the beach and Marie-Ève, Marie-Pier, Kelly-Ann, Daphnée, Frédérique, Sandrine and Sarah-Ève came to watch them with us. It was such a fun night with an awesome group of people. Today, we got to sleep in a little, especially since we got back really late after the fireworks last night. I just got back from the pool and I have an appointment at 1:30 to find out my location and my training schedule. After the appointment we are planning on going to Disney Springs for the afternoon and dinner. I can't wait to see all the new shops and restaurants that just opened. Once again, I'm sorry I didn't post anything about yesterday's activity. I literally did not have a minute to breath. I was working, I took the time to workout with my mom then to go to the training at the pool and yesterday night was my going away dinner with people from work so I got home really late and I was working this morning so I decided I would just make one big post today. I did take the time to do the activity, which was to prepare snacks for the trip. My mom helped me because she is the best! While I made dehydrated apples, she baked me cookies. They are super healthy and so good, I can't wait to be at the airport so I can eat them haha!
Today's activity, I knew I wouldn't have time to do it today. At least not all of it. So I spent a couple of hours everyday this week doing it. I made something for all the occasions that I am missing this summer, like father's day and my sister's birthday. I will not tell you what because they might read this and it would ruin the surprise! I also made a card for mother's day, which was today! Happy mother's day to all the amazing moms reading this! I can't believe I am leaving in just a few hours! I have been so busy all year it just flew by! I can't wait to see what this program will be like! I will give you an update as soon as I have the time, I promise! Sorry I didn't post anything about the activity I did yesterday! The activity was simply to watch a movie I had never seen before, which I did. I watched the fourth Star Wars. I though it was fitting since Star Wars Day was just the day before and it's almost a tradition that I watch a new Star Wars movie before going to Disney every year. I don't exactly like Star Wars, but I thought this one was pretty good!
Now, on with today's activity! I hope you have all seen Beauty and the Beast and, if you have, you probably know some of the lyrics to Be Our Guest! Well in the song, Lumiere mentions the Grey Stuff at one point "Try the grey stuff, it's delicious! Don't believe me? Ask the dishes." In the movie it seems to be some kind of hors d'oeuvre, but at the Be Our Guest restaurant in Magic Kingdom, the Grey Stuff is a dessert, and it is delicious. I know I should be trying to get fit for summer, but I love desserts and this one is so good I had to try and make it! It turns out, it was pretty easy to make! I found the recipe on Pinterest (you probably know by now that Pinterest is my life haha) and it took about an hour. It tastes exactly like the one in Disney AND my family thinks it's gross so it's all for me haha. Now I want to go to Be Our Guest! Right now! I also had good news today! I haven't talked about it much, but I am almost sure I mentioned it. If you don't know yet, I applied to be a French language assistant in British-Colombia during the next school year and I got the email today that I was accepted! I start on September 6th and I will be living in Comox for 9 months. Life is amazing right now! I am leaving for Disney in 3 days and I will be leaving for British-Colombia in 4 months! This morning, before going to work, I did all of my laundry and packed both of my suitcases and my backpack. I only have a few things left to pack. Things that I use everyday and still need for the next for days. I have a regular sized suitcase and a carry-on suitcase. The little one is full, but there is still a little bit of space in the big one, so enough room for all the little things I have left.
All in all, it took me three hours the do the laundry and pack everything. Pretty efficient right?! I was pretty proud of myself. I almost forgot that I would need a toothbrush though haha I thought about it while I was having lunch and wrote it on my list so I don't forget anything. I probably have too many clothes, but I only packed things that I like to wear all the time so I don't think it's so bad. I don't have any warm clothes or long sleeves or pants. I am going to wear a sweater and crop pants when I leave, but that is all I am bringing that is kind of warm. I have long pyjamas though since it can be cold in the apartments. I am also bringing shampoo and soap and hangers and a bunch of stuff I can leave there so I will have enough space to bring back anything I might buy over there. For a list of things to pack click here! The next few days are going to be crazy busy, but now that my suitcase is done, I'm not nervous, because I'm ready to leave. I still have to work everyday until I leave (tomorrow night, Friday night, Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday). I also have my going away party on Saturday and mother's day on Sunday. I won't have a minute to myself until I leave, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Has everyone seen the movie Inside Out? I had the chance to go see it last summer and I absolutely loved it. Not only was the animation flawless, but it was also full of emotions and memories I could relate to. When I first decided to do an activity everyday again this year, I knew I wanted to make another type of cupcakes because I had so much fun baking the aliens cupcakes last year. As I was looking on Pinterest for ideas, I found these "Memory Bubble" cupcakes and I thought they were so cute! Since I had loved the film so much, it was only logical to make these this year. The concept is pretty simple. The cupcakes are divided between the five emotions and are full of memory bubbles (Smarties). They were fun to make and so delicious. The whole family enjoyed them and my friend who got some too because she just moved to a new apartment and has been working so hard painting and moving boxes, she totally deserved cupcakes! (Her appartement looks amazing btw and I am so happy for her. I had so much fun helping to paint today!) Here is a look at the result of today's activity. I hope I could give all of you one so you could enjoy them as well! |
AuthorHello everyone! My name is Marie-Ève. I am from Québec, Canada and this blog is about my summer as a cast member in Walt Disney World. Since most of my family and friends speak French, everything on this blog will be written both in English and French. Archives
